School Board settles on 2015-16 calendar
Classes begin Aug. 24
The Clear Lake School Board has given its approval to a 2015-16 calendar which starts classes on Monday, Aug. 24, for high school students.
The Board had been in limbo for more than a month on its start date because legislators had been debating state guidelines which now prohibit schools starting earlier than the week of Sept. 1.
Monday, the School Board approved a calendar which has teachers reporting to work Aug. 19. Aug. 24 is the first day of school at the high school, with conferences planned for kindergarten-prep through eighth grade students. The first day of preschool will be Sept. 8. Preschoolers will attend classes at the Sunset School building.
The district will continue to have early dismissals (2 p.m.) each Wednesday, beginning Sept. 2, for staff development.
The later-than-usual start extends the first semester to 94 days, ending on Jan. 15, 2016.
Winter break will begin Dec. 23, with classes resuming Jan. 4. On Dec. 22, classes will dismiss at 2 p.m. for staff development.
Spring break will be March 14-18, 2016.
Graduation is set for May 22. The last day of school will be May 27. Possible snow make-up days would be May 31, June 1, 2, 3.
