Ventura, G-H Boards schedule joint meeting

The Ventura and Garner-Hayfield School Boards will hold a joint meeting tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 14) at Ventura High School to discuss sharing of all athletics (grades 7-12) and all activities such as speech and drama (grades 9-12) for the 2012-2013 school year.

    The boards are also slated to continue their talks about possible whole grade sharing between the districts.

Ventura School Board member resigns

Persons interested in serving  invited to submit names

 

    Ventura School Board member Carol Prescott has officially submitted her resignation to the board.
    Board Secretary Nancy Watson said Prescott handed in her resignation at the Sept. 5 board meeting.  The group must now fill the vacancy within 30 days of her resignation.  Any resident of the Ventura District interested in filling Prescott’s term until the next election in September 2013 is asked to contact Watson at Ventura Schools 641-829-4482.

Trina Peterson

    Trina Danette Peterson, age 38, of Hastings, Minn, died Sept. 2, 2011.
    Trina was born July 7, 1973 in Rochester, Minn. to Greg and Kathy (Millen) Peterson. She attended Hastings High School.

Robert Brand

Robert “Bob” Charles Brand, 64, of 2400 S. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Respectable season opener for CL cross country teams

    Clear Lake cross country teams made a very respectable showing at their first meet of the season.  The Lions participated in the Newman Invitational Tuesday, Aug. 3.  In the varsity girls race, the Lions finished as runner-up in the team standings, while the varsity boys were fifth overall.

Lions capture a big win over the Indians, 43-21

    The most traditional thing about Friday night’s Clear Lake football game was that it ended in a win.

Vikings pick up a heart-pounding 44-39 win

   Heart-pounding over the top excitement is the only way to describe Ventura’s football game Friday night against Graettinger-Terril.  A total of 11 touchdowns were scored in the game, 4 in the fourth quarter alone, a game-saving touchdown was made in the final :51 seconds of play and a key interception were all part of the adrenalin rush, as the Vikings topped the Knights

Lady Vikes opened strong, but came up short

 The Ventura volleyball team opened strong, but couldn’t keep their momentum and fell to St. Ansgar at home on Thursday, Sept. 1. 
    The Lady Vikes pulled off a close, 26-24, win in the first match, but dropped the next three by scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 25-13.

Girls sweep Eagle Grove

   The Clear Lake volleyball team opened its season with a full slate of matches last week. 
    Tuesday, the Lions hosted North Butler and Central Springs.  Although they captured games, the Lions were 0-2 in match play.  Thursday, Clear Lake bounced back with vengeance and swept Eagle Grove 3-0.
