Clear Lake men will receive lifesaving award

    A pair of Clear Lake men are among 26 individuals who will be recognized with Governor’s Lifesaving Awards during a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair later this week. Shane Monson and Michael Moorehead will be honored with a lifesaving award, given to those who have saved the lives of others without apparent risk to their own life.

    Duane Bergan, age 76, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
     Duane M. Bergan was born on July 12, 1935, at his parents’ home in Springfield Township, Winneshiek County, Decorah, the son of Orval and Adeline (Haugen) Bergan.  Duane was baptized on Aug. 4, 1935, by the Rev. Paul Koren and was confirmed on May 14, 1950, both at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.

Rea Faber earns All-State Softball recognition

    Clear Lake’s Rea Faber has been included on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) 2011 All-State Softball teams.
    Faber, a senior outfielder for the Lions, received Honorable Mention in All-State balloting announced last week.  Earlier, she was named to the All-North Central Conference First Team.
