Wrestler place fourth in Clear Lake Invite

Logan Kellogg and Matt Bieber both won titles Saturday at the eight-team Clear Lake invitational.  Both wrestlers pinned their opponents in the finals to highlight the Lion squad. Three other Lions were in the finals but lost.  Ryan Schmalen, Carson Farmer and Brice Wilcke all placed second.

Girls pick up one win; drop two

  Coach Bart Smith says his team is learning some important lessons this season.  The Lions (6-3) returned from the holiday break and posted a win, but then dropped a pair of games.  Coach Smith boiled the week down to one thing -- you’ve got to want to win more than the other team.

Rough road games for the Lions

    The road had been rough for the Clear Lake boys.  The Lions returned to action after the holiday break with three road games last week.  Conference leaders Webster City and St. Ed’s both downed the visitors, then Forest City posted a non-conference win over the Lions.   The losses put the Lions at 3-6 on the season heading into a Monday game at Mason City.

Vikings fall to undefeated Harris-Lake Park

Harris-Lake Park showed the Ventura boys why they are the number one team in the Cornbelt Conference and a top ranked team in the state on Friday night, Jan. 6.  The 11-0 Wolves topped the Vikings 65-33 in the Ventura gym.

Waldron gets a unique view of national caucus news coverage

    A local student had the opportunity to experience the Iowa Caucuses in a unique way last week.
    Kevin Waldron, a 2008 Ventura graduate who is now a senior at Grand View College in Des Moines, was recruited to work for NBC in the days preceding the caucus and helped during caucus night in a variety of ways.

Grapplers to host two meets this week

The Clear Lake wrestling team will host two meets this week.  Thursday, Jan. 5, the Lions will take on conference rivals Humboldt and Webster City in a junior varsity/varsity

meet.  Clear Lake and Humboldt will start things off at 6 p.m., followed by Humboldt vs. Webster City at 7:30 and then Clear Lake vs. Webster City at 8:30 p.m.
    Saturday, Jan. 7, Clear Lake will host its invitational.  Eight teams will be competing, beginning at 10 a.m.
