Lions tally up 42 points in victory over Algona

X-C team fairs well at home meet

Clear Lake hosted its cross country invitational Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Baptist Camp at Ventura.  Each Lion team had a strong outing, resulting in a third place finish overall for the varsity boys team; the Clear Lake girls were fourth overall.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country team has been logging some miles and picking up some top place finishes in recent meets.

Vikings fall to #2 rated Northeast Hamilton

  The Vikings traveled to Blairsburg on Friday night to take on number two rated Northeast Hamilton in a District three showdown.
    The Trojans scored on their first possession of the game for an 8-0 lead.  The rest of the quarter was a defensive struggle with neither team scoring for the remainder of the quarter.

New fire station celebrated

    “Welcome to YOUR Clear Lake Fire Station,” Fire Chief Doug Meyers told hundreds attending a special dedication ceremony Saturday.  “It is dedicated to all of us that call Clear Lake our home.”

CLHS teacher inspired students

    A Clear Lake High School teacher is being remembered as a passionate professional with an unwavering resolve to prepare students for life.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, for Blake Lobdell, a 25-year science/physics teacher and coach at CLHS. Lobdell, died unexpectedly Sunday.  He was 50.

Ventura, G-H Boards move toward sharing

The Ventura and Garner-Hayfield school boards have directed their attorneys to look into the details of drafting a letter of intent to participate in a whole-grade sharing agreement.  The two boards gathered in Ventura Wednesday for a joint meeting.
    The letter of intent must be filed by late October if the two school districts are to proceed with whole grade sharing next school year.

    Charles “Chuck” A. Sorensen, 76, of 2109 Pine Tree Ct., Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. 
    Funeral service were held Monday, Sept. 12, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating.   Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton, Iowa.  Family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
