John Nepstad

John O. Nepstad, 60, of Clear Lake and formerly of Lake Mills, Iowa died Monday, July 4, 2011, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by his loving family.
    A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills.

Mildred Burdette

    Mildred R. Burdette, 105, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday July 6, 2011 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. 
    Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake with the Rev. John R. Tilp officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 10:30 a.m. at the Green Acres Cemetery, Scottsdale, Az.  Family

Robert Larson

Robert Clarence Larson Sr., 83, of Clear Lake, passed away on Sunday July 10, 2011 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.    
    Funeral services will be Thursday, July 14, 11 a.m. at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating.  Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Visitation will be one

Girls drop Regional opener

Hampton-Dumont ended the season Friday for the Clear Lake girls softball team.  The Bulldogs handled the Lions, 4-0, to win their opening game of Regional competition.  The Lions ended the 2011 campaign with a record of 9-22 under Coach Nicki Petersburg.
 

Lions earn runner-up honors in NCC

The Clear Lake baseball team earned a pair of North Central Conference victories last week which provided the Lions with a runner-up finish in the NCC final standings.  However, a loss to Central Springs ended the week on the downside.

Bicycles, Blues & BBQ combine for weekend fun

    The Bicycle, Blues and BBQ Festival is continuing to gain momentum.  The weekend festival not only drew a large number of cyclists, but continues to turn locals into bicycle racing enthusiasts.

Mayor directs police chief to lead investigation of drowning

    The City of Clear Lake is initiating a review of all matters surrounding the drowning and recovery of the body of a Clear Lake teenager June 30.
    Mayor Nelson Crabb said he feels an “incident review” would be due diligence by the city.  It will involve all parties who responded to the June 30 emergency involving 16-year-old Jerrad Ramon.   Crabb asked Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson to spearhead the review.

Vandekrol joins CL police department

The Clear Lake Police Department welcomed a new officer on July 1.  Joel Vandekrol, from Cedar Falls, Iowa fills a position vacated by the retirement of  police Lieutenant Jim Lyster.

City OKs change to development agreement

    The Clear Lake City Council gave its approval last week to an amendment of a development agreement with Titan Pro SCI.  The business, which opened in the Larry Luker Industrial Park in January 2010, plans to expand its building and workforce.
    The amendment modifies the amount of property taxes rebated to the company.  Currently, Titan Pro SCI qualifies for property tax rebates of $800,000; under the new agreement the rebates would increase to $1.1 million for up to 10 years.

    Betty Mae Enabnit, 87 of Clear Lake, died, July 1, 2011, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the Clear Lake Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave North, Clear Lake, with Pastor Curtis McGinnis officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Swaledale, Iowa.
