    Bill B. Beard, born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 20, 1928, passed away on Saturday evening, June 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
    Bill was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, and most recently great-grandpa to a family who loved him dearly and will miss him forever.    Bill’s career spanned over 27 years at Sears in Ames, Iowa.  Bill and his wife Nancy retired to Clear Lake in the fall of 1991. Fourth ranked Lions move record to 20-4

    Coach Seth Thompson is encouraging the Clear Lake community to get out to the ball field this week and help the Lions finish the home stretch of the regular season strong.  After playing seven games last week, the fourth ranked (3A) Lions are 20-4 and have two suspended games (Clarion and Eagle Grove) that will both be made up Friday.

Another tough week for girls softball team

The Clear Lake girls had some good performances, but was saddled with five losses last week.  The Lions now stand at 2-16 on the season.  This week the Lions are scheduled to play a doubleheader tonight (Wednesday) at Iowa Falls.  Thursday they will be at Algona Garrigan and Friday they are at Eagle Grove.

School Board turns down church request to use auditorium

Group encouraged to consider Sunset School

    The Clear Lake School Board turned down a request Monday from the newly established Harvest Bible Chapel to conduct its Sunday services in E.B. Stillman Auditorium.
    The board unanimously voted against the request, saying it had concerns about the year-long contract and use of some Middle School classrooms the church was seeking.  The auditorium is situated between the high school and middle school buildings.

After 41 years, Elly retires from unique Lakeside Tap

    You can bet that anyone who has been in the bar business for 41 years has plenty of stories to tell.  Such is the case with Elly Harmeyer.  Elly has recently retired as owner of Elly’s Lakefront Tap, a popular Clear Lake bar for 41 years.

    Early deadlines will be in effect for the next issue of the Mirror-Reporter.  Due to the Wednesday, July 4 holiday, the newspaper will actually be published Tuesday, July

3.  Subscribers will receive their newspaper in their mailbox or via the Internet on Tuesday.  The early publication means deadlines must be moved up to Friday, June 29.  News and classified advertising is due by 3 p.m. Friday.
