CL, Ventura firefighters called to blazes at OP, Silver Boot Motel
The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to two separate incidents Friday evening, starting with a reported kitchen fire at The Other Place on Highway 18 shortly before 5 p.m.
Responding with three companies from Clear Lake and an additional two companies from Ventura, the blaze was contained to the kitchen area. The Clear Lake EMS, Clear Lake PD, Iowa State Troopers, and Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Dept. also assisted.
A grease fire was found and extinguished quickly upon arrival with minimal extension into the rest of the structure. All occupants were evacuated quickly and no injuries were reported. Damage estimates are around $250,000.
According to CLFD Public Information Officer Billy Krefft, during the overhaul portion of the OP fire, a report came in that a second fire had started at the Silver Boot Motel on South Shore Drive.
Fire was found in the walls and ceiling between and above two motel units. One unit was occupied and another vacant. Parties were evacuated and the fire was extinguished.
Cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature, with damage estimated at about $30,000.
The CLFD was assisted by the Ventura Protective Association, Clear Lake EMS and Clear Lake Police Department.
There were no injuries reported at either blaze.
