Bergvig to challenge School Board incumbents
A third candidate has entered the race for two Clear Lake School Board seats.
Chyrl Bergvig, a retired educator, filed nomination papers with the School District Administrative Office Tuesday, July 30. The deadline for filing papers is 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1.
Clear Lake School Board members Mark Tesar and Sandy Christ are wrapping up their terms. Tesar, who is the current Board president, and Christ, have announced their intention to seek re-election.
Bergvig retired as an administrator/guidance counselor at CLHS in 2009. She spent 17 years with the CLSD and a total of 35 years in education. She currently serves as president of the Clear Lake Park and Recreation Department Board of Directors, president of Iowa Guardianship Inc. housed at Opportunity Village, is vice-president of the Veteran’s Memorial Women’s Golf Association, and a member of the city’s Planning and Zoning Board.
School board members are locally elected public officials charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and other duties. School board members are elected to serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd-numbered years. Those elected receive no pay.
