Motorcyclist dies after accident

A Garner man has died from injuries he sustained when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 18 and Main Avenue in Ventura.

The Clear Lake Police Department reports that Timothy Hayes, 27, of Mason City, was westbound on Highway 18 at 6:24 p.m. Thursday, April 10,

Head-on collision sends four to hospital

 Four persons were seriously injured Tuesday night, April 8, in a head-on collision at Highway 18 and McIntosh Road, west of Clear Lake.

 At 9:32 p.m. the Clear Lake Police Department received a report of the collision.

New Village CEO announced

Jeff Nichols, of Grand Junction, Colo., has been hired as the new chief executive officer of Opportunity Village.

Nichols will begin his duties sometime in June 2014, following the retirement of current CEO John Severtson.  

RAGBRAI riders will travel on North Shore Drive

It’s official.  The RAGBRAI route between Ventura and Clear Lake will be East Lake Street to North Shore Drive.  

“The lake will be the highlight of this portion of the ride on July 23,” said Clear Lake RAGBRAI Chair Diane Thompson.  “In 1999, the route was on North Shore Drive and the riders expressed their 

delight in seeing the lake while in Ventura and then following it all the way to downtown Clear Lake – and they will have the same view this year.”

Strength training program takes off at school

The weight room at Clear Lake High School is busy these days-- and not just during the winter months when the weather limits outdoor activities.  The school district is in its second year of developing an all-school strength training program that all students can be involved in all year round.  

Elizabeth Jensen

Elizabeth A. “Beth” Jensen, 93, of Clear Lake, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Beth will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, 12 N. 4th Street, Clear Lake, with the Reverend Dean Hess presiding.  Burial will follow in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church on Thursday.

Patsy Ann Broers

Patsy Ann Broers, 67, of Harrison, Ark., died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Hospice House in Harrison.  

Services for Patsy were held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Harrison, with the Rev. David Williams officiating.  Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1100 W. Wilma A. Scott

Wilma “Ann” Scott, 80, of Clear Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with her family at her side.

Per Ann’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service was held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.  Inurnment followed in the Clear Lake Cemetery. 

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to Clear Lake United Methodist Church Altar Guild or Apple Valley Assisted Living.

CL girls open soccer season with a 1-0 win over A-P

The Clear Lake girls soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 win over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday night, April 7.
