Wilma A. Scott

Wilma “Ann” Scott, 80, of Clear Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with her family at her side.

Per Ann’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service was held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.  Inurnment followed in the Clear Lake Cemetery. 

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to Clear Lake United Methodist Church Altar Guild or Apple Valley Assisted Living.

Wilma Ann Scott, daughter of the late Purl and Izetta (Johnson) Partello, was born Jan. 13, 1934 on a farm northeast of Estherville, Iowa.  Ann was a “daddy’s girl” from birth.  She graduated from Estherville High 

School in 1952 and attended Drake University and the Kansas City Institute of Art.  Ann returned to Estherville and worked as a receptionist for a local chiropractor.   

She met Larry Scott in November of 1954 and after a whirlwind courtship, they married on March 6, 1955 and took up residence in Humboldt, Iowa.  Stephanie was the first of four daughters born.  After Stephanie’s birth, they moved briefly to Sterling, Colo., and returned to Spirit Lake, Iowa, prior to the arrival of Patricia.  After moving to Clear Lake, Valerie was born, followed by Natalie four years later.  

Larry and Ann moved their family to an acreage south of Clear Lake in 1968 and enjoyed country living for many years.  Ann worked for the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter as an advertising representative for many years; after which, she worked as a floral designer for local florists.  After Larry’s retirement, the couple spent much of their time traveling with winter trips to Florida, Texas, Arizona and several adventures overseas.  For many years, they traveled in their motor home across the United States with friends.

Ann was very active in her church, with service in the Altar Guild, and was a co-founder of the Methodist Church’s Wedding Coordinator Program.  She enjoyed her lifelong friends, many of which she met through Beta Sigma Phi.  Ann was active in 4-H as a child and the Masonic Temple.  Through Larry’s membership in the Clear Lake Jaycee’s, Ann assisted with her artistic talents in designing backdrops and stage sets for the Iowa Miss America Pageant, which was held at the Clear Lake Surf Ballroom.  They also attended the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.  

Ann enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, gardening, decorating and sharing her artistic talents with friends and family.  Ann had a strong connection to family and worked hard to maintain and grow those relationships.

Left to cherish Ann’s memory are her husband, Larry Scott, Clear Lake; daughters, Stephanie (Steve) Garner, Waverly, Iowa, Patricia (Finn) Hauchrog, Lake Havasu, Ariz., Valerie Lafrenz and Natalie (Darren) Poole, both of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Kayla (Ryan) Reitzler, Centerville, Ohio, Kimberly Madson, Waverly, Kyle Madson, Madison, Wisc., Catherine Hauchrog, Lincoln, Neb., Lauren Lafrenz, Clear Lake, and Ryan Lafrenz, Clear Lake; great-grandchildren, Rex, Klyne, and Annika Reitzler and Carson Smock; sister, Marcia Hill, Spirit Lake; brothers, Purl (Janice) Partello, Okoboji, Iowa, and Phillip Partello, Arnold’s Park, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
