Cooney, Furleigh will step down from service

    A pair of Clear Lake City Councilmen have announced they will not seek re-election this fall.
    First Ward Council representative Shane Cooney and Third Ward Councilman Ben Furleigh plan to give up their seats.
    “I have enjoyed serving the City of Clear Lake and am proud of the many improvements that have been accomplished over the last six years.  I hope my perspective has played a positive role in shaping the direction of our community and welcome the ideas and insight a new candidate would bring to the First Ward,” said Cooney.
    Furleigh has served four terms on the City Council.

    “I will definitely miss my involvement in city government but I feel 12 years (1996-2003 and 2008-2011) is long enough and it’s good to get a fresh set of eyes on the process,” said Furleigh.  “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to have served for three terms.  I’ve seen amazing progress over those 12 years and I’ve always been impressed with how smoothly our city government is run - city staff does a great job planning ahead instead of reacting.  I feel fortunate as well to have served with elected officials that work out conflicts like professionals. I’d recommend the experience to anyone interested in public service and would by happy to answer questions about what to expect.”

Callanan to run again

   Mike Callanan has announced he will seek re-election to the four-year At-Large City Council seat in the upcoming City Election.
    “While serving the City of Clear Lake for the last four years, I have learned a great deal about local government and have developed a tremendous respect for the process and workings of this format,” said Callanan.  “I have found it to be very rewarding as the City has moved forward with many exciting projects.  Several of these are ongoing and I would like the opportunity to see them completed if the local voters will re-elect me.  I feel I can bring experience, a great work ethic, and a very strong dedication to- Read More Via e-Edition
