Janice I. Joynt, 71, of 1010 Village Rd., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial Mass was held Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman officiating.  Memorials may be made in memory of Janice Joynt.

Beaulah Andersen

 

Beaulah Elaine Andersen, 85, of Mattoon, Ill., formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died at 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at Mattoon Health Care.

Funeral service honoring her life will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Ward Van Slyke Funeral Home, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. 

Wilma Woiwod

 

Wilma Jean “Billie” Woiwod, 80, 515 10th Ave N., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  

     A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner,  with Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating.  Interment was at the St. John’s Cemetery, Rural Garner.  Memorials may be given to the St. John’s Cemetery in her name.  

Wrestlers go 4-3

 

 

The Clear Lake wrestling team went 4-3 last week in a busy week of wrestling.  The Lions beat Eagle Grove 64-15 and Hampton-Dumont 42-30 in North Central Conference action Thursday night in the Lion gym. The wins put the Lions at 3-0 and tied for first place in the conference.

Despite a poor start, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys battled back to capture a solid win against West Hancock on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Clear Lake boys pick up two road wins

 

The Clear Lake boys improved to 3-1 in the North Central Conference with two road wins last week.  The Lions bested Webster City and Hampton-Dumont to gain momentum heading into more key NCC games this week.  Last night (Tuesday) the Lions hosted Clarion-Goldfield and Friday they will take on St. Ed’s.  The Gaels are tied with Algona at 3-0 in the NCC.  Iowa Falls-Alden, which defeated the Lions in their first game of the season, sits atop the NCC standings at 4-0.

CL girls pound Lynx, 52-12

 

The Lions notched two more wins in girls basketball action last week.  The girls picked up conference wins on the road at Webster City and Hampton.  The victories pushed the Lions to 4-1 and keep them in contention for a North Central Conference title.  

This week the team is home for a pair of games.  They faced Clarion-Goldfield (1-4 in the NCC) last night and will take on St. Ed’s (4-1) Friday night, Dec. 14.  The only conference loss for St. Ed’s so far

Police investigate early morning stabbing

 

Clear Lake police are investigating a stabbing which has left a Minnesota man in critical condition.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Dec. 9, the Clear Lake Police Department was contacted by the Mason City Police Department from the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room.  They reported a male subject had been admitted to the hospital with a knife wound that resulted from an assault that occurred 

a short time earlier at the Kum & Go Convenience Store located at 2005 Highway 18 E., Clear Lake.
