CL X-C team looking to be competitive in NCC meet

The Clear Lake cross country teams had the chance to preview the course for the North Central Conference meet, racing at the Eagle Grove Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 8.  Based on their performances, the Lions should be very competitive at the NCC meet next week.

Clear Lake’s varsity boys team finished four in the nine-team field; the girls were ninth.

GHV/WH team posts good individual times at Eagle Grove Cross Country Meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country team posted some good individual times when they competed at Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The boys team placed third out of the eight teams competing.  Algona won the meet with 59 points, followed by Gilbert with 60 and GHV-WH finished with 88 points.  Clear Lake was fourth with 103 points.

The lake level dropped 1.08” to its new reading of 

-7.68” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -30.12” below the weir.

Lessons in fire safety

Grant will help police focus on impaired drivers

  The Clear Lake Police Department was awarded a Traffic Safety Grant 

Oct. 1 from the State of Iowa to focus on the enforcement of impaired drivers.  

Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson reports the grant will be used from October through September and will allow police officers to conduct additional traffic enforcement directed at impaired driving at times and locations identified as high-risk.  

Local tour group makes the most of trip to nation’s capitol

They say, “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”  A group of 35 seniors making a 10-day bus trip to Washington D.C. this month did just that.  

Members of the Clear Lake Bank & Trust Clear Sailing 55 Club departed for the nation’s capitol Sunday, Sept. 29.  On Monday, the vast majority of the groups’ itinerary was moot.  The government shutdown
