Cardinals place third at West Hancock Meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team finished third in the seven-team West Hancock Meet held on Saturday, May 3, in Britt.

Clarion won the meet with 312 points, followed by Lake Mills with 325.  The Cardinals finished the meet with 346 strokes.

GHV to join Top of Iowa Conference fall of 2015-16

A new super-conference combining the current North Iowa and Corn Bowl conferences has been finalized.  The new super-conference will be known as the Top of Iowa Conference.   At a joint meeting held Wednesday, April 30, at the AEA office in Clear Lake, superintendents from both conferences reached an agreement and approved the name of the 18 schools uniting in the fall of the 2015-16 school year. 

Lions travel to Hampton for co-ed track meet

The Clear Lake girls and boys track teams were in Hampton Friday, May 2, to compete in an large co-ed invitational.  Even down three top performers, the Clear Lake boys ran extremely well, placing fifth out of 11 teams with 69.5 points; Hudson won the meet with 113. On the girls side, the Lions scored a season-high 22 points, placing 11th in the 12-team field.  Hudson also topped the girls standings with 124 points.

GHV girls golf team picks up two more wins

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team hosted North Iowa on Monday, May 5.  Despite the Cardinals beating North Iowa, 218 to 237, Coach Todd Greiman was not happy with his team’s performance.

“I was very disappointed to see us finish with our worst score of the season on the nicest day to play,” said Greiman.  “It seemed that there were a lot of things going wrong with everyone’s game and we found ourselves getting penalty strokes that we usually don’t have.”

CL boys soccer team now ranked

After receiving votes for ranking consideration for weeks, the Clear Lake boys soccer team burst onto the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IAHSSCA) rankings for week four of the season (games played through April 26).  

The Lions are sitting just out of the top 10 in Class 1A, appearing as number 11 in the ratings with a 3-1 record.

Accident near Ventura

Four persons were injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday, April 30, near Ventura.  The Iowa State Patrol reported Rachel Formanek, 18, of Clear Lake, was traveling westbound on 260th Street at about 2:35 p.m.

Walkers help raise over $118,000 for Village

 Walkers in Clear Lake and Fort Dodge raised over $118,000 for Opportunity Village in the 45th Annual Benefit Walk on May 4.

Gardens will focus on view to north

 Work at Central Gardens of North Iowa this year will focus on landscaping aimed at minimizing “the elephant gazing in,” otherwise known as a new condominium development located at the north end of the gardens, according to Chip Kinsey, Central Gardens Board president.

City: Assessment bills finally on the way for 2011 street project

Property owners within the 10th Avenue North Street Reconstruction Project area will soon be getting their assessment bills for the work, some three years after the project began.

At its regular meeting Monday night, the Council initiated the final steps in the special assessment process.
