Randy Thomas Kaster, 59, 102 W. Lake St., Ventura, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

     A Celebration of Life was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa with Mark Doebel officiating.  

According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.  Inurnment will be at the Ventura Cemetery at a later date.

The Clear Lake girls basketball team upset third ranked (3A) Hampton-Dumont Tuesday, but stumbled in another key conference matchup to go to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the NCC.

St. Ed’s hands Lions first NCC loss

The Clear Lake boys were tested last week by an improving Hampton-Dumont team and an upset-minded St. Edmond squad.  The Lions were able to get past H-D, but suffered their first conference loss at Fort Dodge, dropping them to 8-5 overall and 7-1 in the North Central Conference.

GHV bounces back from FC loss to defeat Belmond-Klemme, North Iowa

The GHV boys kept themselves in the hunt for a North Iowa Conference title, winning two of three contests during the past week.  The Cards dropped a match-up with league leading and ninth ranked (2A) Forest City, but topped Belmond-Klemme and North Iowa to improve to 12-4 overall and 11-4 in the NIC.  

 

Cardinal girls work to put complete games together

The GHV girls started the week with a loss, but bounced back with a pair of wins against North Iowa Conference opponents.  The Cardinals are now 12-5 overall and 11-5 in the league.

Grapplers upset #3 Ft. Dodge, romp over rival Mason City

The Clear Lake wrestling team had what Coach Gary Weber called their best meet of the year Tuesday, and beat arch rival Mason City 40-23 and upset third ranked Ft. Dodge, 39-30. 

“Our wrestling staff couldn’t be prouder.  Our four ranked wrestlers have been carrying us all 

year, but this meet all 14 wrestlers and the JV contributed to the team wins,” said Weber.

Armand F. Oetken

Armand F. Oetken, 83, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating.

Alice L. Monson

Alice Louise Monson, 81, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.  Alice gave in death as she gave in life; she was a tissue donor with the Iowa Donor Network.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.   

The family suggest memorials to The Humane Society of North Iowa. 

Marjorie Watson

Marjorie Jean Suttcliffe Treu Watson passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2015 at home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, surrounded by family.  

Margie was born in Clear Lake on May 5, 1929, to Harold and Letty Sutcliffe and was the youngest of four sisters.  She grew up during the height of the great depression and often related stories of hardship and hunger from her early childhood.  When in high school she met the love of her life, Gaylord Beryl Treu.
