Several months ago, the Clear
Lake Arts Center asked eight local
artists to create a poster in response
to one of the following statements:
What I Love About Clear Lake … or
What I Love About the Arts … and
something remarkable happened.
They got eight totally different and
incredibly passionate responses - from
Craig Kienast’s ‘The Music Lives On’
to Sandra Quintus’ ‘Fishing Boy’.
They then invited local business-
es and individuals to sponsor the 38 of
8 for $38 Poster Project. Sponsorships
helped pay for the printing of the
posters and the matting and framing
of one of the artist’s proofs. The Arts
Center then used the framed and mat-
ted piece for display purposes through
the year.
Arts Center issues
call for submissions
to January show
The Clear Lake Arts Center is ac-
cepting submissions for their exhibi-
tion titled “A Review of Blue” that will clartscenter.com or call the Clear Lake

Iowa Caucus
Iowa Public Television contin-
ues its tradition of political coverage
stretching across more than 10 caucus
cycles and four decades with a new
historical documentary and a three-
part series covering the 2016 Iowa
Caucus cycle.
Caucus Iowa: Journey to the
Presidency showcases a political rite
of passage more than four decades
in the making. This yearlong project
shows how Iowa became the politi-
cal epicenter and launching pad for
the world’s most powerful position,
the president of the United States.
The documentary includes recent in-
terviews with political leaders from
across the country on their memories
of campaigning in Iowa and signifi-
cant materials gathered from the Ar-
chives of Iowa Broadcasting, a special
collection of the Wartburg College
Archives. This is the first time this
footage has been digitized and used
for historical documentary purposes.
The three-part series Caucus
Countdown follows the past year on
the campaign trail from when the
first 2016 presidential candidates
descended on Iowa, to major party
events and the Iowa State Fair, to the
waning weeks just prior to Caucus
Monday.
Caucus Iowa: Journey to the
Presidency premieres on Monday,
Jan. 4, at 9 p.m. Caucus Countdown

owners,” said Paula Hanus, Arts Cen-
ter director and chairperson of the
Poster Project.
“We are thrilled to have been a
sponsor for this program, to have the
opportunity to support Clear Lake
artist Sandra Quintus and to support
the Arts Center,” said Morgan Lovell,
marketing coordinator at CL Tel.
CL Tel sponsored Sandra Quin-
tus’ poster titled ‘Fishing Boy’. Other

Adorned with over 200 orna-
ments created by local artists, the
Clear Lake Arts Center’s Christmas
Tree is a spectacular site to see. The
fully decorated tree takes center stage
in the Arts Center’s Hanson Gallery
through Wednesday, Dec. 23.
The 2015 collection of all artist-
made ornaments encompasses a broad
range of art media from fused glass
to hand-sculpted clay, from felted
wool to twisted wire and more. All
ornaments, with the exception of the
Linda Sorensen’s felted partridge tree
topper, are for sale and perfect for gift-
giving and holiday decorating.
“The collection is a wonderful
study on how an artist can integrate
what they do as a fine artist into the
decorative arts,” said executive direc-
tor, Paula Hanus, when asked about
the unique collection. “Typically the
ornament artist will use simple forms
in romantic or folk art styles. While
that is the case with a portion of this
collection, there are a surprising num-
