Despite a fourth quarter rally,
Clear Lake fell short in its bid to re-
main unbeaten in the NCC and was
defeated by St. Ed’s, 64-53.
“After giving a great effort the
night before in Mason City, I think
we left our energy and legs behind
us in Clear Lake,” said Coach Ain-
ley. “Right from the start we did not
play as hard as St. Ed’s and we played
from behind all night. We came out
flat and let them shoot easy baskets

The Lions dig themselves a hole
early, trailing 15-9 after the first quar-
ter. A third quarter surge by the Gaels
gave them the nine-point win.
Thomas Storbeck continued to
lead the team. The junior was four-
for-four from the free throw line on
his way to a 16-point performance.
Zach Tatum was also in double figures
with 14 points and a team-high five
rebounds.
The rest of the Lion line-up pro-
vided balanced scoring, with Zach
Lester and Parker Pitzen each putting
in five points, Justin Sholly scoring
three, Nate DiCamillo two and Jarod
Anderson one point.

The Clear Lake JV boys’ bas-
ketball team hosted Charles City on
Monday, Dec. 7, for their third game
of the year.
The Lions started off hot and led
by 10-points at halftime. The team
didn’t let up as they cruised to a 46-30
victory over the Comets.
The Lions were led in scoring by
Sam Pedelty with 14-points. Nate
DeCamillo chipped in eight. Hunter
Gerhart, Ryan Atkinson and Evan
Krause each contributed four points
on the night. Torian Lee added three.
H-D 44, Clear Lake 32
The Lions faced a tough Hamp-
ton-Dumont team on Friday, Dec.
11, at home.
The Lions started off slow and
could not fight back to claim a win.
The Bulldogs won the contest, 44-32.

NIACC women ranked fifth in NJCAA
The NIACC women's basketball team is ranked fifth in the NJCAA
Division II poll released Wednesday, Dec. 16. It is the 28th straight poll that
the NIACC women have been ranked in the top 10. The Lady Trojans (7-4)
have been ranked in the top five in 19 of those 28 polls. Johnson County
CC (12-0) is ranked number one. Former Clear Lake High School basket-
ball standout, Trudy Peterson, is a member of the NIACC team. The Lady
Trojans return to action Dec. 28 at the Illinois Central Holiday Tournament.
They play Cincinnati State CC in the opening round of the eight-team tour-
nament that has four teams ranked in the top 10 of the NJCAA Division II
poll.
