Thomas Smith

    Thomas R. Smith, 89, of St. Paul, Minn., passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012, surrounded by his family.
    A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at O’Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home, 575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul, Minn.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Carla Lowman

    Carla A. Lowman, 75, Clear Lake, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn. 
    According to her wishes, her body has been cremated and a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 21, at the Clear Lake Cemetery with the Reverend Dennis Ganz officiating.  Memorial contributions may be designated to the Carla Lowman Memorial Fund in care of her family.

Victor Parks

    Victor L. Parks, 91, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Rockwell Care Center.
    Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 19, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating.  Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Victor L. Parks memorial fund or the donor’s charity of choice.

DeVries selected to IHSAA Football Players Hall of Fame

   A Clear Lake assistant football coach will be among those inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Football Players Hall of Fame this year.

Clear Lake bats on fire

    Clear Lake’s bats have been as hot as the weather.  The Lions outscored their opponents 47-14 in three wins last week.  They are now 14-3 overall and rated number four in Class 3A this week.

Softball team gaining confidence

    The Clear Lake softball team is gaining experience and confidence as the season progresses. The Lions picked up their second win of the season Saturday, topping Rockford 11-8 at the Mason City Tournament.  Their record is now 2-7.
