    Clear Lake is home to two top beaches, according to USA Today. 
    Clear Lake’s City Beach and Clear Lake State Park Beach were both mentioned in the publication’s Memorial Day weekend Travel feature, “51 Great American Beaches.”

Man rescued from lake after boat capsizes

    A Des Moines man was rescued Sunday afternoon when the boat he was in capsized in high winds near the island.
     Charley Fields, 41, was rescued by Iowa DNR Conservation Officer Ben Bergman and Water Patrol Officer Zach Scott after the small fishing boat he was operating was rolled by high winds and choppy water at approximately 2 p.m.

Ventura street project will cause traffic issues

    Main Street pavement removals and grading work will begin the week of June 4 in Ventura from Lake Street south to its corporate limits.  Planners warn the project will result in traffic congestion.
     Traffic on Main Street will be maintained, however, it will be one-way alternating traffic controlled by traffic signals. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes, if possible, as the area will be congested.

Girls shatter school record to claim Regional title

The Clear Lake girls golf team shattered a school record on their way to a Class 3A Regional title Monday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course.  The win sends the Lions to the State Meet in Ankeny next week (May 29-30) with momentum and confidence.

Boys top Decorah to claim District championship and a berth at State Golf Meet

The Lions shot their best round of the year and upset number one ranked Decorah to earn a District championship and berth at the Class 3A State Golf Meet Friday and Saturday in Ames.  Clear Lake won the District played at Waverly with a fifth score tie-breaker, 306-307.  The top two teams both advance to State.

Diercks places 2nd in long jump

     Chandler Diercks, a freshman on the Clear Lake track team, took home second place in the Class 3A long jump Friday in Des Moines.  Diercks set a new personal record for himself in jumping 21’ 11.75” and finished just one-quarter of an inch out of first. Glenwood’s Grant May, a senior, won the event with a mark of 22’.

Mathews earns medal in 100 hurdles

Five Ventura high school students got to wear the blue and gold one more time at the 2012 State Track and Field Championships held Thursday-Saturday, May 17-19, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.  The five athletes represented VHS

Lynx end season for the Lions

The season came to a close for the Clear Lake soccer team in the first round of Sub-State played Monday, May 21, at Webster City.  For the second time in just over a week the Lynx dominated the Lions.  They won, 9-0

Team has a chance at new school record

     The Clear Lake girls soccer team equalled their best record (8-3) with a 4-0 win over Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday.  The Lions have two chances to set a new school record for wins with a match Tuesday at Mason City and the start of post-season play at Garner May 29.
