Kellogg and Bieber get places on the podium

Clear Lake seniors Logan Kellogg and Matt Bieber ended their high school wrestling careers with outstanding performances at the State Wrestling Meet in Des Moines.  Kellogg battled all the way back from an opening round loss to finish third at 182-pounds.  Bieber earned fifth place in the 120-pound bracket.

CL girls fall in Regional final to Spirit Lake

    The season came to a close a few minutes too early Saturday night for the Clear Lake girls.  A fourth quarter run by the Lions fell short and they were defeated by Spirit Lake 53-43 in the Class 3A Regional final.

Lions cruise past Oelwein 73-52 in District opener

    The Clear Lake boys sputtered a bit at the start, then cruised past Oelwein in the first round of Class 3A District 5 post season play.  The Lions (12-10) advanced to play Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday at Mason City with their 73-52 victory.

Vikings fall to Bison in District action

The Ventura boys’ season came to an end at Buffalo Center on Thursday, Feb. 16, when they fell to number nine ranked North Iowa in the second round of Class 1A District basketball action.
    “Our guys came out probably the best we’ve seen them play all season, which is great for the last game of the year,” said Coach Chad Brown.

Knights end the season for Lady Vikes

 A tough first quarter doomed the Lady Vikes in the second round of Class 1A District basketball action on Tuesday, Feb. 14.  They fell to Newman Catholic, 52-41.
    “Newman came out in the first quarter and hit everything,” said Coach Rod Huber.  “I thought we outplayed them the rest of the way, but the first quarter put us into too big of a hole.”

Alice Levisay

     Alice Jane Levisay passed away on Feb. 18, 2012 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 91. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 1, at Evangelical Free Church in Ponca, Neb. Interment will be in Maskell Cemetery, Maskell, Neb. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
