Found wallet provides a glimpse of the past

    It wasn’t exactly buried treasure, but an old zippered wallet found in the rafters of a Clear Lake home provided a glimpse into the past, as well as a local history lesson.
    Bill VanHorn was working at the home of George and Marilyn Lagios last week when he came across a wallet.  He turned

the wallet over to the Lagio’s son, Peter, who shared its contents with the Mirror-Reporter.  There was no money in the wallet; instead, the leather pouch was filled with a driver’s license, military draft card and labor credentials for its owner, Norman C. Huff. Huff was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and apparently employed by DC Smith, of Mason City, back in 1951.  The wallet contained several receipts from Rice Electric and McGowan Hardware, both former Clear Lake businesses.
    A search of local history shows that Huff retired as an electrician and welder for Snyder Construction in Clear Lake.  He passed away in 2001 at the age of 74 in Mason City.
