Donald Hewitt

 

Donald D. “Don” Hewitt, 80, of Waterford, Wis., passed away at Memorial Hospital of Burlington on Jan. 31, 2013.  

Don was born in Mason City, Iowa, on April 6, 1932 the son of the late Charles E. and Olga J. (Nelson) Hewitt.  He was a graduate of the Indian Hills Community College Business School of Ottumwa, Iowa.  On Oct. 27, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia A. Jodan.  The couple began their lives

Tami L. Willmann, 40, 302 14th St., NW, Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at her home.  

     A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with Rev. Neil  Manternach officiating. 

Visitation will be Thursday, 5 – 7 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer-Moore, 126 3rd St., NE, Mason City, with a time of sharing at 6 p.m.  Interment will be in Elmwood –St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.  In lieu of flowers, 

Mary L. Eason

 

Mary L. Eason, 82, 4006 N.E. Tulip Lane, Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at her home.  

Arrangements are pending at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

Four Clear Lake wrestlers qualify for State

 

 

Four Clear Lake wrestlers have punched their ticket to State.  Ryan Schmalen, Andres Gonzalez, Brice Wilcke and Connor Nosbisch all qualified for State wrestling, which begins Thursday evening at 7 p.m. 

“They did a great job!” said head Coach Gary Weber following Saturday’s District meet at Hampton.  “We ran into Jim Miller, Wartburg’s wrestling coach, before the  meet and his advice to the boys was just to fight. They did that at all six weights.”

Firefighters battle early morning house fire

 

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 112 N. 5th St. just after 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6.  

Fire Chief Doug Meyers reports a person walking in the area reported the fire to the police department 

Survey: School district wants to plan early dismissals

 

Every week? Every other? Late start or early dismissal? School Board wants to know

 

Clear Lake school leaders are sending home an assignment for parents this week -- a survey which will help determine the 2013-14 school calendar.  Specifically, the School Board is asking for input about early dismissal options.

During the current school year the district has scheduled early dismissals every other Wednesday to accommodate required teacher in-service dates.
