Students tip their hats to classmate recovering from head injury

Students at Clear Lake Middle School and High School tipped their caps Tuesday to a fellow student currently homebound as the result of a head injury.

Richard L. Scott, Sr., 76, formerly of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 at the I.O.O. F. Home in Mason City, Iowa, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating.  Burial will be held in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Richard’s service on Wednesday morning at the church.  

Gerald Lindsay

 

Gerald (Jerry) Lindsay, 85, passed away November 6, 2012 at Hospice of North Iowa. His body was donated to the Deeded Body Program, University of Iowa. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Clear Lake United Methodist Church on Monday, November 19 at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m.

According to Alana Enabnit, a former Clear Lake High School cross country runner who now runs for Wartburg College, it takes a lot of work and dedication to be a collegiate athlete.

Cardinals land 12 on All-District lists

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team finished their Class 2A, District 2 season with a record of 7-4, and had 12 players receive All-District honors. 

Clear Lake School Board discusses possible options for Sunset School building

The Clear Lake School Board held a planning session on Monday night, Nov. 12, where plans were considered to use the former Sunset Elementary School to house the Lakeside Alternative Program as well as a New Tech Network Model regional academy.

A few months ago Clear Lake approached Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Superintendent Tyler Williams to explore the possibility of housing the Alternative Program at Sunset.

A Veteran’s Day Assembly was held at the Clear Lake High School on Friday, Nov. 11.  The V.F.W. Post 4868 (below) lowered the flag and held a gun salute at the flagpool outside 

Cerro Gordo County turns out in large numbers for election day

Cerro Gordo County was busy at the polls Tuesday, Nov., 6 with the 2012 Presidential and General Elections, turning out more than 14,000 voters on Election Day, and another 9,500 voting absentee. 

Following the Iowa and national trends, Cerro Gordo also voted in favor of Barack Obama with 13,204 votes, while giving Mitt Romney 10,084. Nationally, President Obama and Joe Biden received 53,138,271 popular 

Officers respond to assault call

 

Suspect flees and is found at Opportunity Village

 

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, the Clear Lake Police responded to 1010 Village Road in Clear Lake, after receiving a call from a 32-year old female who had been assaulted physically by her boyfriend and then threatened with a knife.

When officers arrived they found the victim to be suffering from non-life threatening injuries. She was not transported to the hospital. A knife was taken as evidence at the scene. 

Christ honored as Citizen of the Year
