Lions give it their all at State

Second-ranked Pocahontas Area hit four three-pointers during a two and one-half minute span in the fourth quarter and rallied to beat number 13 Clear Lake, 63-59, Class 3A quarterfinal round at the Girls State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines Tuesday, March 3.

Roger D. Gray, 69, of Clear Lake, formerly of Buffalo Center, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

A celebration of Roger’s life was held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Opportunity Village, Clear Lake, with Pastor Rich Murray officiating.  Graveside services were held at the Ramsey Reformed Church Cemetery, Titonka, Iowa, with Rev. Perry DeGroot officiating.  Family 

suggests memorials to Opportunity Village, Clear Lake.

Faber named to INA All-State Girls BB Team

Clear Lake's Kaye Faber has been named to the Iowa Newspaper Association's 2015 All-State Girls Basketball Team.  Faber, a 5'11" senior, was selected as a member of the Class 3A Third Team.

Three GHV players named to All-Conference teams

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team had three players named to North Iowa Conference teams for the 2014-15 season.  Sam Cataldo was named to the First Team, Payton James was named Second Team All Conference and Johnathan O’Connor received Honorable Mention recognition.

The National Transportation Safety Board has agreed to consider reopening an investigation into what caused a 1959 Iowa plane crash that killed musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson and pilot Roger Peterson. 

Fire department will receive rescue boat, brass pole for station

 The Clear Lake Fire Department has announced that it has received a very generous, private donation to the Clear Lake Volunteer Firefighter’s Association directed toward two specific projects. 

CL preschoolers will move to Sunset School in 2015-16

The former Sunset View Elementary School will return to its roots next school year.  

Elementary Principal Mike Barkley met with the School Board Monday at its workshop session and told the group he recommends locating the district’s three pre-school classrooms at Sunset next school year.  There is simply not enough room at Clear Creek 

Elementary for the projected number of students enrolled in pre-school through grade five, he said.

School Board begins looking at possible cuts to meet budget

The Clear Lake School Board met in workshop session Monday night to begin finding ways to cut approximately $600,000 from its 2015-16 budget.
