Three GHV players named to All-Conference teams

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team had three players named to North Iowa Conference teams for the 2014-15 season.  Sam Cataldo was named to the First Team, Payton James was named Second Team All Conference and Johnathan O’Connor received Honorable Mention recognition.

Cataldo, a junior, led the Cardinals in both scoring and rebounding.  He averaged 18.2 points a game and scored 437 points for the season.  He was the second leading rebounder in the conference and was fourth in the state for rebounding.  He pulled down a total of 227 rebounds for the season and averaged 9.5 a game.  Cataldo also led the conference in blocked shots and was second in the state with 99 for the season.

James, a junior, was the team’s three-point shooter.  He was fourth in the state in three-point percentage, with a 46.4 percentage.  He connected on 52 three-pointers for the season.  He averaged 9.8 points a game and ended the season with a total of 234 points.

O’Connor, a sophomore, led the team in steals with 29.  He averaged 7.4 points per game and finished the season with a total of 177 points.  He also averaged 2.5 rebounds a game.

The Cardinals finished the year with a record of 17-7.  They were fourth in the NIC.  State qualifier Forest City led the conference with a 23-2 record.  

Dan Rosacker, of Forest City, was named the Coach of the Year, and Erich Erdman, of Forest City, was named Player of the Year.
