     Alice Jane Levisay passed away on Feb. 18, 2012 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 91. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 1, at Evangelical Free Church in Ponca, Neb. Interment will be in Maskell Cemetery, Maskell, Neb. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Joseph “Joe” J. Goranson, 46, of Mason City, Iowa and formerly Clear Lake, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 in  Mason City.
    Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating. Inurnment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggests memorials to Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Plenty of color, no wind for annual kite festival

    Mother Nature cooperated with the organizers of Color the Wind on Saturday, but only partially.  The weather was warm, the ice was safe and the blue skies were beautiful, but there was little or no wind. 
    And everyone knows you can’t fly kites without wind!

City approves contract with police, Teamsters

    The City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve a three-year collective bargaining agreement between the City of Clear Lake and the Clear Lake Police Department and Teamsters Local #238.

Council sets budget hearing; Major paving project moves on

    The City has set March 12 as the public hearing date for its proposed fiscal year 2013 budget.
    The City Council plans to keep the rate the same ($10.54 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation).  By holding the rate steady, extra revenues will be collected and banked to fund a major renovation of City Hall in the future.
