Alice Levisay

     Alice Jane Levisay passed away on Feb. 18, 2012 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 91. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 1, at Evangelical Free Church in Ponca, Neb. Interment will be in Maskell Cemetery, Maskell, Neb. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

     Alice Jane Levisay, the daughter of Chauncey and Alice Eyestone Merwin, was born July 16, 1920 in Temple, Texas.  As a young girl, Jane moved to Clear Lake.  She graduated in 1939.  In 1941 Jane married her high school sweetheart, Jim Levisay.  They were married for 58 years.  Jane was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and church.  She was known for her knowledge of the Bible, cooking, baking, sewing and playing cards.  She and Jim taught Sunday School for many years as well as serving as leaders of the Pioneer Club for Kids.
    Survivors include sons, David of Sioux Falls, S.D., Bob (Marsha) of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Karl (Debbie) of Spencer, Iowa; daughters, Jane (Steve) Nelson of Ponca, Neb. and Joanne (Fritz) Groat of Clare, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Leslie, Abigail, Ginny, Emily, Aaron, Benjamin, Matt, Wendy, Andy, Shea and Cole; 19 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Kathryn, Ruth, Doris, Carol May, Sarah and Pauline; two brothers, Jim and Paul.
    Preceding her in death were her parents, Chauncey and Alice Merwin; her husband, Jim; sisters, Mary, Althea and Helen; brothers, Art, David and Ralph; and her great-grandchild, Clayton.
    Funeral arrangements were by Warner Funeral Home, Spencer.
