Richard Johnson

    Richard “Richie” LeRoy Johnson, 76, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
    Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 24, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City,

officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of service.  Family suggests memorials to Richard LeRoy Johnson Memorial Fund.
    Richard was born Oct. 8, 1935 in Clear Lake, one of 10 siblings and son of Adolph Martin and Mary E. (Skellinger) Johnson.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1953.  Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
    He moved back to Clear Lake and later worked for his brother, Ralph, who was a painting contractor.
    He enjoyed watching basketball and football, especially his favorite teams the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings.  He also enjoyed visiting with his friends and family.
    Richard is survived by his brothers, Ralph “Red” Johnson, Mason City, Iowa and Keith (Gigi) Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Martha Lange, White Bear Lake, Minn., Lorrine Michaels, Hazelwood, Mo., Dorothy (Jerry) Chamberlain, White Bear Lake, and a special sister, Phyllis “Till” Spilman, Clear Lake; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend at Oakwood, Audrey Winkel. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Adeline Schendel; and three brothers, Calvin K., Kenneth R. and Lincoln P. Johnson. The family would like to give a special thank you to Marc Anderson at Oakwood Care Center for the special care that he gave to Richard.
