G-H/V girls drop two close soccer contests

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team dropped two close contests last week.

Webster City 3, G-H/V 2

The Cardinals dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Webster City. 

“I am so proud of how our girls kept their head up and left it all on the field,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “All the girls are playing very well as a team.”

CL boys soccer team falls in Sub-State

 

Third-ranked (Class 2A) Hudson ended the season for the Clear Lake boys in Sub-State soccer action Wednesday, May 22.

Hudson, playing on its home field, defeated the Lions 2-1 in the Sub-State semi-final.

The Pirates advanced to face No. 16 Waverly-Shell Rock Saturday and were defeated by the Go-Hawks,

 2-0.  W-SR will play in the State tournament starting May 30 at Cowie State Park in Des Moines.

Further details of the Clear Lake match with Hudson were not available at press time.

LAKE LEVEL

 

Lots of rain makes for a higher lake!  The lake rose 3.48” to its new reading 

of -0.24” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -9.00” below the weir.

Inching closer

 

Following a week filled with rain, the level of Clear Lake is inching ever so close to spilling over the weir.  The Clear Lake Water Department reported the lake level as -0.24 inches below the weir Tuesday, May 28. That’s a 

Plans unveiled for pet shelter in Clear Lake

 

A Clear Lake couple has announced plans for “Patriots for Pets Rescue and Shelter,” a 501©(3) non-profit corporation to be built.

Debbie and Chuck Kern, owners of The Animal House in Clear Lake, have begun clearing land south of their boarding facility on North 40th Street to construct a no-kill animal rescue and shelter building. The new 6,000 square foot building will house approximately 75 homeless dogs and cats with quarantine 

units.  

Pastor will make mission trip to Oklahoma

 

A Clear Lake pastor plans to travel to tornado-ravaged Oklahoma June 10-14 to help in whatever way he can.  He encourages others to join him.

James H. “Jim” Heine, 87, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa, in Mason City, surrounded by his loving family. 

John Bledsoe

 

John Junior Bledsoe, 84, of 523 10th Ave. N, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at home. 

Due to his wishes, he was cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., 

Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.  Family suggest memorials to John Junior Bledsoe Memorial Fund, c/o his daughter, Donna Prescott, 46117 212th Ave., Lake Mills, IA 50450.  

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements. 

Susan Graham

 

    Susan Jane (Draper) Graham, age 59, of Garner, Iowa, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at her home in Garner, surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Belmond United Methodist Church, Belmond, Iowa.  The Reverend Cindy Morrison was officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. Those wishing to
