Haugen signs with NIACC

 

Clear Lake High School senior Brianna Haugen has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Coach Chris Brandt at North Iowa Area Community College in the fall.  Coach Brandt said she is excited to have “a wicked left-hander” on her roster in the fall.  

Clear Lake players add skill to Mohawk Hockey Club

 

The Mohawk Hockey Club had a strong finish to the season, but couldn’t muster a win at the Midwest High School Hockey League Tournament.  The team, which features eight players on its roster from Clear Lake, dropped its quarterfinal round contest against 

Clear Lake lands five on All-North Central Conference lists

 

Clear Lake’s starting five were represented on the recently released All-North Central Conference lists.

Juniors Logan Anderson and Trudy Peterson were both First Team All-NCC selections.  Senior Megan Loux was a Second Team All-NCC choice, while senior Kristen Hewett and junior Bailey Kibsgaard were named to the All-NCC Third Team.

Girls compete at All-Iowa Dance

 

Alexis Atkinson, Maddy Hartnett and Maddie Hess represented the Clear Lake High School Dance Team on March 2-3 at the All-Iowa Dance.  The All-Iowa Honor Dance Team made its 31st appearance at the State Girl’s Basketball Tournament.  One 

Davidson, Swenson and Sheakley earn All-Conference recognition

 

Three Clear Lake Lions have received All-North Central Conference honors from coaches.  Junior Spencer Davidson was a First Team choice.  Junior Pete Swenson was named to the Second Team and senior Gavin Sheakley was picked for the NCC’s Third Team.

Davidson was the leading scorer for the Lions with an average of 19.5 points in 24 games played.  His scoring 

P&R asks public to suggest names for new recreation area

 

What’s in a name?  

The Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Board of Directors is hoping creative Clear Lakers can provide an imaginative name for the city’s recreation area located on 12th Avenue South.

Board President Chyrl Bergvig said the area is beginning to take shape and the group is anxious to give it a name and heighten public awareness of the space. 

“We’ve got a lot of good things happening there and it’s time to put a name on it,” she said.

City Council gives final approval for ‘14 budget

 

The Clear Lake City Council approved its fiscal year 2014 budget following a public hearing Monday night.  

For the third straight year, the tax rate for the City of Clear Lake for the 2014 fiscal year, which begins, July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2014, is $10.54 per $1,000 of taxable value.

Independent Film Festival moving back to Mason City

 

The Board of Directors of the Iowa Independent Film Festival have voted to move the festival from Clear Lake to Mason City.

According to a statement posted on its website, several factors contributed to the decision, but the most important was the opportunity to relocate the festival to the newly restored Park Inn Hotel, the last remaining hotel in the world designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
