King Construction was awarded the
$1.14 million contract for the project and
officials at City Hall and the police depart-
ment say the project went as scheduled,
with smooth transitions between phases
of the work. Without so much as a min-
ute downtime, the police department has
seamlessly moved into its new headquar-
ters in two phases. When the former fire
department garage was ready, the dispatch
center, officer’s room, locker room, ar-
mory, booking room and interrogation
rooms were relocated to the new space and
the former areas were transformed.
King was the lowest of eight bid-
ders for the work. The base bid from King
($1,140,381) was roughly 15.3 percent be-
low the architect’s estimate of $1,345,876
for the project.

lockers, purchased from a school closing in St. Charles, Minn. served as a locker room and was also used bers, mayor, City Administrator and City Clerk was constructed at one end of the room, wired with microphones to promote better amplification and
for a break room with a small refrigerator with a microwave perched on top. (Below) A new room in re-broadcast of proceedings. The room is significantly larger than the former Council Chambers, which often was filled beyond capacity.
