Rick Lundquist

    Rick L. Lundquist, 62, went to heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  He was very ready to go and went very peacefully surrounded by his loving family and his dog, Fozzie.  Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 7, at Riverside Friends Church, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Paul Martin officiating.  Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Rick L. Lundquist Memorial Fund in care of the family.  Online

Toppin competes at State Cross Country Meet

  Two cross country runners from the boy’s Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock team competed in the State Cross Country Meet held on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

    Joel Toppin ran one of his best meets of the season by finishing in 29th place with a time of 16:36.  Brad Nedved finished in 57th place with a time of 17:00.
    “Joel ran a great race down at State,” said G-H/V/WH Coach Jeff Short.  “I am looking forward to having both Brad and Joel lead the team next year down to the State Meet.”

Ouverson named to NCC Third Team

The Clear Lake volleyball team recently held their end of the year banquet.
    Carly Ouverson received recognition in the North Central Conference by being named to the Third Team.
    “It was nice to see my coaching colleagues also recognize Carly as one of the best setters in our conference.  She is a dedicated volleyball player who is a great leader for the younger girls in our program to follow,” said Coach Scott Swenson.  “She is an example of how hard work and sacrifice pays off.”

Three Lady Vikes named to Cornbelt Conferene teams

  Three Ventura volleyball players were named to Cornbelt Conference teams for the 2011 season.  Emily Mathews, a sophomore, was named to the First Team, while fellow classmates Shelby Rayhons and Courtney Younge earned Second Team Recognition.
    “All three girls had a great passion for the game, they played their hearts out and have phenomenal attitudes and great work ethics,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz.  “They are all very competitive and strive to do their best.”

    It isn’t everyday a community holds a ribbon cutting for a new parking lot.  But then again, this isn’t just any parking lot.

Group celebrates completion of Ventura Marsh project

    A job well done. 
    That was the message as the completion of the Ventura Marsh Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Project was celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 1.  A ribbon cutting was held at the site of the $5 million project. The marsh restoration project was a partnership between the IDNR and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Plans moving forward on Lincoln School redevelopment project

Tom Green, Cameron Green and Gary Veeder, all of the Green Group, L.L.C., along with architect Randy Cram of Bergland & Cram, met with the Clear Lake City Council in a workshop session on Monday, Nov. 7, to update the council on how plans were moving forward concerning the Lincoln School redevelopment project.  
    According to Tom Green, asbestos removal from the school has been completed and his company is now doing salvage work inside the structure.  Green went on to say that they would like to have the older structure of the building torn down by the end of November.

Ventura to hold Public Hearing regarding whole grade sharing

    The Ventura Board of Education will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, Nov. 21, to discuss a whole grade sharing agreement with Garner-Hayfield Schools.

The meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the high school media center.

Conserving energy pays big dividends for CL School District

It’s the time of the year when we all start thinking about conserving energy-- and in turn save some money.  We shut the windows up tight, and often wrap a blanket around our shoulders rather than turn up the thermostat.
    Little things like that can add up.  And in the case of the Clear Lake School District.  Little things can really add up.
