CL boys bounce back from shaky start

What a difference a few days can make.
    The Clear Lake boys golf team bounced back from a shaky start to the season at Decorah by capturing the team title at the Spencer Invitational Saturday, April 14. 
Viking Invitational
    It was a rough day for the Lions at the Viking Invitational held in Decorah Thursday, April 12.  The Lions finished sixth in the eight-team field.  The host team won the team title with a score of 300.  The Lions came in at 336.

CL girls open season with impressive start

    The Clear Lake girls golf team opened the season in impressive fashion.
    Meg Monson’s 39 led the Lions to a triangular win over Mason City and Newman Catholic April 9.  The match was played at the Mason City Country Club.  The Clear Lake team fired a 179.  Mason City was next at 212, followed by Newman Catholic at 215.  Monson was the medalist.

CL girls record some good performances

Hannover Relays
    The Lions were at Algona Tuesday, April 10, to compete in the Hannover Relays.  Some good performances were recorded against a tough field of competitors.
    Clear Lake’s Distance Medley relay with Peyton Huey, Caitlin Harle, Brittany Bieber and Trudy Peterson gave the Lions a win in 4:42.66.  Peterson also earned a second

CL boys tennis team defeats Lynx

     The Lions boys tennis team traveled to Webster City on April 9 and came away with a 9-0 victory in very windy conditions.  Luke Schiller and Austin Anderson led the way with a 10-1 and 10-0 win respectively.

Vavrik leads G-H/V trapshooting team to championship

 The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura trap shooting team took top honors at the Mohawk Invitational held at the Ventura Gun Club on Saturday, April 14.  Eighty-seven area high school trap shooters participated in the event.
    The G-H/V team scored 227 out of 250 for the win.  Mason City Black was second with 223. Mason City Red scored 220 and Denver finished with 219.

Ventura golf teams opens season

    The Ventura boys and girls golf teams have kicked off the 2012 season off. 
    “Our boys and girls have both improved a great deal,” said Coach Joe Obermann.  “For our boys, Jacob Heinemann and Ryan Grunwald have been playing well scores in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. Wind plays a factor in CL girls soccer loss to MC

    The Lions (2-1) held their ground against Mason City on a very windy Monday.  But with the wind at their back, the Mohawks scored the only goal in the match for a 1-0 victory April 9.

Clear Lake over-powered by Osage in girls tennis

    Osage over-powered the Clear Lake girls tennis team in a match played Tuesday, April 10. 
    Jenna Peterson was Clear Lake’s only winner in an 8-1 meet.  Peterson was a 10-6 winner over Danielle Hejhal in the number one singles match.

Robert Boehnke

    Robert A. Boehnke, 74, of Clear Lake, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
    Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14 at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Garner, Iowa with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.  Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jay Whitehurst

    Jay A. Whitehurst, 54, of Mason City, Iowa died Friday, April 13, 2012, at his home.  Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Harvestime Church with Pastor George Johnson officiating.  Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jay Whitehurst Memorial
