The son of Lawrence and Reva (Roderick) Myers, Gordon Dean was born on Aug. 1, 1944, in Mason City. He was a lifelong Clear Lake resident and often reminisced with his children about attending country school in his early years. He graduated from Clear Lake High School among the class of 1961.
On March 2, 1963 Gordy was united in marriage to Sharon DeBell at the Assembly of God Church in Mason City. Together they were blessed with two children and 60 years of marriage.
For many years Gordy farmed near Clear Lake while also working at White Tractor, Bestway Sprayer Company, the Sugar Beet Factory, Curries, and finally the Klemme Golf Course and Camp Tanglefoot where he spent countless hours mowing.
Gordy was always one to keep busy, he enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, golfing, hunting, trapping, and often could be found tinkering in his shed.
He was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He shared his love of cribbage with each one of them, teaching them how to play as soon as they were old enough. Along with the grandchildren, Gordy also adored his four-legged companion, Murphy.
Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Sharon; children, Steven (Darla) Myers and Becky (Paul) Chizek, all of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Miranda (David) Nelson, Ashley (Ty) Fittje, Brandon (Samantha) Myers, Alyssa Myers and her fiancé Zach Graham, Nick (Annabelle) Chizek, and Jacob Chizek; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Myers, Skylar Myers, Lliam, Noah, and Adley-Mae Fittje; brother-in-law, Dave and Carol DeBell; nieces and nephew, Dennis Amundson, Donna Amundson, and JoDee Kopetsky; as well as extended relatives and many friends.
