Lawrence L. Bernemann

Lawrence L. “Larry” Bernemann, 87, passed away July 24, 2023 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, at Epiphany Parish - Holy Family Catholic Church, 722 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with Rev. Neil Manternach as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 5-7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd NE, Mason City, and will resume one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Larry’s honor to the Newman Foundation.  

Larry was born March 21, 1936 to Leo and Bernice Bernemann.  He was united in marriage to Bonnie Trudeau and to this union two children were born, Rebecca and Bradley.  Later he met and married Dolores DeVary.  

Larry was heavily involved in Labrador Field Trials.  He was given his first dog, a black lab, at the age of 18 and stayed in the game until he was in his 70’s.  He also gave back by spending many weekends judging the trials.  He had a reputation of being a fair judge.

Larry was employed at the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad and the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for a total of 41 years.

He was an outdoorsman in his younger days and loved spending time at the cabin on Eagle Lake. Larry had a lifelong love of baseball and supported the Boston Red Sox, Iowa Hawkeyes, Notre Dame, and Newman Catholic, where he rarely missed a game. He loved old cars and was especially fond of Pontiac models. 

Larry was a religious person and only missed Mass due to illness.  He strived to live his life according to his faith and was a devoted member of Epiphany Parish.  

Those grateful in sharing in his life include his wife, Dolores; children, Becky and Bradley; grandchildren; and sister, Beverly; as well as extended family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bernice; and his sister, Mary Jo Bernemann.

Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
