Patricia Ann Abele, 73, of Klemme, most recently of Belmond, passed away on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Patricia’s family held a public visitation and opportunity to greet them on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5-7 p.m., at Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services at the United Methodist Church in Belmond on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Patricia’s name may direct them to the family.

Patricia Ann Anderson was born in Mason City, on March 27, 1949.  She grew up in Mason City attending Mason City Community Schools and graduating from high school there in the Class of 1967.

In June of 1969, Patricia was united in marriage to Robert Anthony Mary in Mason City.  The couple’s union was blessed with three children, Angela, Bobbi, and Joseph.  They were later divorced.

Patricia married John Abele in 1982 at the Klemme United Methodist Church.  Patricia and John were active members where she taught Bible School for many years.  Patricia was also involved in the Klemme area through her leadership in the Junior Girl Scouts programs.

She was employed as a Dietary Aide at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond for 22 years before health issues forced her to retire from this career.

Patricia’s entire world was her family.  Her children and grandchildren were first and foremost in all that she did.  She cherished every moment she could spend in their presence and relished every opportunity to attend any activity or event they were involved in.  She was very proud of all that her kids and grandkids did regardless of how big or small the accomplishment and was their number one cheerleader.  Even in her declining health if she could not be at an event, she loved to watch them virtually and was pulling for them from a distance.  She loved family gatherings and especially looked forward to Christmas where there was a set routine that she orchestrated.

Patricia always had a plan!  She loved to go shopping and go out to eat. Her favorite places were Red Lobster and Carlos O’ Kelly’s. She loved to go get pedicures and manicures with her family as often as she could.

Patricia and her family enjoyed going to the movies as another favorite past time. She loved to watch her favorite classic soaps on TV which included, General Hospital and Young and the Restless.  She didn’t travel very much, but one of her trips with John to Las Vegas brought with it the bonus of meeting both Dustan Hoffman and Tom Cruise while they were in town filming the movie “Rain Man”.

Those who had the honor of knowing Patricia, will reflect fondly on her many traits and characteristics that made her who she was as a person.  She was a “City Girl” who enjoyed the serenity of farm life and raising and caring for her family.  A lady with a strong independent side with a great sense of humor and wit.  Her strong will carried her proudly through life and kept her strong, over her cancer battle that lasted many years.  She fought courageously to her very last breath.

Those grateful in sharing in her life include her husband of 40 years, John Abele; her children, Angela (Shawn) O’Donnell, Thornton, Iowa, Bobbi (Kevin) Ring, Belmond, Iowa; and Joseph Mary, Garner, Iowa. Her precious grandchildren, Hunter (Aydan) O’Donnell, Alex Mary, Cody O’Donnell, Zander Mary, Justin O’Donnell, Emily Ring, Amelia Mary, Tyler Ring, and Thomas Mary; sister, Margaret Bagur. Also surviving is nephew, Mike (Melanie) Bagur; great nephew, Cashius Bagur; and great nieces, Tana Bakken and Alexis Beaver, all of Mason City.  As well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends.

Andrews Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
