GHV boys track posting some good times

The Cardinals placed second at the Ulmstead Relays held on Tuesday, April 14, in Eagle Grove.  Humboldt won the eight-team meet with 112 points.  GHV recorded 98 points and Webster City was third with 89.

Logan Dalbeck had a stellar night for the Cardinals, picking up two first place finishes in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:10.57 and in the 1600 meter run in 4:51.13.

JJ Loschen also claimed a championship in the long jump with a leap of 18’7”.

Second place winners included Nich Mehmen in the 400 meter dash, 55.14 and the 4x100 meter relay team and the 4x200 meter relay team.  Both teams consisted of Kevin Boehnke, Conner Shaw, David Cook and JJ Loschen.  The 4x100 team ran the race in 45.95 and the 4x200 team crossed the finish line in 1:36.01.

Other events scoring points included:

•100 meter dash:  Logan Rohlfing, fourth, 11.95; Conner Shaw, fifth, 12.06

•200 meter dash:  Rohlfing, fourth, 24.71.

•3200 meter run: Ray Cataldo, third, 10:57.33; Derek Brown, fourth, 11:09.34

•4x800 relay:  Nathal Klesel,, Daniel Schreur, Andy Schreur, Parker Schnieders, fourth, 9:57.86

•Distance Medley:  Rohlfing, Zac Scholl, Mehmen, Brown, fifth, 4:05.83

•Shuttle Hurdle:  Scholl, Cook, Harley Forry, Loschen, third, 1:05.11

•High Jump:  Boehnke, third, 5’8”

•Discus:  Josh Miller, third, 119’7”

 

Bulldog Invitational

On Thursday, April 16, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team traveled to Lake Mills to compete in the Bulldog Invitational.  Lake Mills won the meet with 135 points, but from there the competition was very tight between Saint Ansgar, Osage, GHV and West Hancock.  Saint Ansgar and Osage each scored 90 points, while GHV and West Hancock were only one point behind them with 89 points apiece.

Ezra Marroquin was the only runner to pick up a first place finish for the Cards.  Marroquin won the 400 meter dash in 52.42.

The relay teams had more success, picking up three first place finishes.  The 4x100 meter relay, consisting of Kevin Boehnke, Conner Shaw, David Cook, and JJ Loschen won the race in 45.66.  The same team also won the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:36.60.  The Distance Medley team of Harley Forry, Zac Scholl, Nich Mehmen and Marroquin won that relay in 3:58.19.

Kevin Boehnke placed second in both the high jump, with a jump of 5’6,” and in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12:11.  Loschen and Marroquin finished in second and third place in the long jump with leaps of 18’8” and 18’4” respectively.

•110 meter hurdles:  Zac Scholl, sixth, 18.29

•Discus:  Josh Miller, fifth, 117’01”

•4x400 relay:  Mehmen, Marroquin, Cook, Shaw, third, 3:43.85

•Shuttle Hurdle:  Scholl, Cook, Forry, Loschen, third, 1:05.08

 

Indian Relays

The Cardinals competed against some tough competition in the 13-team Indian Relays held in Forest City on Friday, April 17.  GHV tied for fourth place with Eagle Grove.  Both teams scored 106 points.  West Fork won the meet with 136 points, followed by St. Ansgar with 131 points and Humboldt with 120.

Sam Cataldo picked up two first place finishes for the Cardinals.  He won the 110 meter hurdle event with a time of 15.61 and took top honors in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.57.  Cataldo also anchored the shuttle hurdle team that placed second in a time of 1:02.53.  Other members of the relay included Zac Scholl, David Cook and JJ Loschen.

Those placing second in events included: Conner Shaw in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.07; Derek Brown in the 1600 meter run, 4:56.95; Logan Dahlbeck in the 3200 meter run, 10:41.10; Loschen in the long jump with a leap of 18’06”; and the sprint medley team of Boehnke, Shaw, Ezra Marroquin and Logan Dalbeck,
