GHV girls have three named to NIC teams
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team had three girls named to All Conference Teams in the North Iowa Conference. Emily Spilman was named First Team. Hannah Lau was named to the Second Team, while Mackenzie Haag earned Honorable Mention recognition.
Spilman, a senior, was the team’s main ball handler. Her speed accounted for 95 steals for the season. She was the second leading scorer on the team. Scoring a total of 216 points for the season, which averaged 9.8 points per game. She had 58 assists for the season and averaged 3.2 rebounds a game.
Lau, a sophomore, was the team’s leading scorer with a total of 261 points for the season and an average of 11.9 points per game. She also led the team in rebounds with 147 for the season and an average of 6.7 a game. She also recorded 16 blocked shots and had 29 steals for the season.
Mackenzie Haag, a senior, was a strong all around player for the Cardinals. She led the team in assists and blocks. With 79 assists for the season and 31 blocked shots. She recorded 92 rebounds for the season and averaged 3.8 a game. She led the team in three-point shooting, connecting on 23 shots. She averaged 5.3 points per game.
The Cardinals finished third in the North Iowa Conference with a record of 16-8. Osage was the conference champions with a 24-1 record, followed by Bishop Garrigan who had a record of 17-7.
Chad Erickson, of Osage, was named Coach of the Year for the North Iowa Conference and Morgan Grimm, also of Osage, was named Player of the Year.
