Ronald Dean “Ron” “Skinny” Coffman, 64, of Ventura, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City. Ron gave in death as he gave in life, through tissue donation to the Iowa Donor Network.
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, starting at 4 p.m. with a time of sharing at 7 p.m. at the Surf Ballroom, Clear
Lake. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Family suggests memorials to Toys for Tots or to The American Cancer Society in memory of Sue Poole.
Ron was born June 11, 1950, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Emory and Sally (McBride) Coffman. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1968. Following high school he went to work for Fridley’s Olds, Cedar Falls, until 1976. He then owned and operated Coffman Body Shop until he semi-retired in November 2013.
He married Connie McCrea and to this union they had three children.
In 1991, he purchased a vacation home in Clear Lake. Ron enjoyed spending time in Clear Lake. In the 1990s he owned and operated Coffman Carts in Clear Lake. Ron married his partner in crime, Jennifer “Bubby” Poole, on March 20, 2006, in St. John, USVl, surrounded by his family, island family and friends, where they continued to share their love for each other and their love for the islands. After cremation, Ron will finally rest in paradise at his Fish Shack in Ventura, Maho Bay on St. John, and White Bay on Jost Van Dyke, BVI.
He enjoyed traveling with friends and family, grilling at home, working in his shop, annual fishing trips with his family to Minnesota, picking antiques with Jen, listening to his music (loud), camping at Happy Time Resort in Lake Mills, Iowa, and most of all loving “his people.” Ron lived his life to the fullest. He was one of the original members of Cedar Falls Football Forecasters Association and was a proud American who belonged to AmVets Cedar Falls Post 49.
Ron is survived by his wife, Jennifer Coffman, of Ventura; three children, Carrie (Andy Huisman) Coffman, of Wellsburg, Iowa, Casey (Jeff) Frahm, of Clear Lake, and Chris (Rachael) Coffman, of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Cody Coffman, Carney Frahm, Carson Frahm, Cadence Coffman and Cael Coffman; his father, Emory Coffman, of Bollingbrook, Ill.; his mother, Sally Bagley, of Cedar Falls; three brothers, Doug (Jayne) Coffman, of Wichita, Kan., Jeff (Mary) Coffman, of Lombard, Ill., and Marc (April) Coffman, of Naples, Idaho; one sister, Linda (Jim) Anderson, of Cedar Falls; father-in-law, Roger Poole, of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Katie Poole; nephews, Lane and Cade Paulson, of Clear Lake; brother-in-law, Brian (Becky) Poole of Des Moines; and scores of others whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Sue Poole.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
