Rex P. McChesney

Rex Patrick McChesney, 52, of 714 9th Ave. North, Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa surrounded by his loving family.

Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Rex was born Dec. 11, 1962, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Patrick Rex and Joann (Klein) McChesney.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1981 and then attended N.I.A.C.C. graduating in 1983.  While attending N.I.A.C.C. he was a pitcher for the baseball team.  

In 1983 he started working for the Cerro Gordo Sheriff Office as a correctional officer.  He married his sweetheart from high school, Jodie Ann Bailey, on May 19, 1984, at the Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile, Iowa.

In November of 1986l he joined the Clear Lake Police Dept., where he has worked ever since.  He was promoted to lieutenant and then in 2014 he was promoted to interim Clear Lake Police Chief. 

He helped with Mighty Lions Wrestling Club and was a great supporter of Lion activities, and was a bleacher butt as he and Jodie watched and supported their two sons in athletic events.  He enjoyed hunting trips with family and friends; yearly Canada fishing trips and especially spending time with his family.

Rex was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Clear Lake; Clear Lake Noon Lions; Clear Lake Police Benevolence Association; Iowa Chief Police Association and Iowa State Police Association.

Rex is survived by his wife, Jodie McChesney, Clear Lake; two sons, Seth (Sarah) McChesney, Rockwell, Iowa, and Sean (Natalie) McChesney, Des Moines, Iowa; a grandson due in February 2015; father, Patrick Rex McChesney, Clear Lake; and his mother, Joann (Russ Oehlert) McChesney, Clear Lake; brother, Joel (Mary) McChesney, Milwaukee, Wis.; and his sister, Esther (Terry) Anderson, Ventura, Iowa; mother-in-law, JoAnn (Burtness) Bailey; sister-in-law, Melody Morse, Clear Lake; brother-in-law, Lonnie Bailey and his special friend, Cheri Schmidt, Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
