Marlys L. Christensen

Marlys Leona Christensen, 93, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at the Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake. 

     A funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at the Ward- Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, in Clear Lake.  Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. 

     Marlys Leona Prescott, the daughter of Burton and Alta Mae Prescott, was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Clear Lake. She attended rural country school before moving to Wichita, Kan. to work for Boeing Aircraft during the war. Marlys married the love of her life, Raymond Christensen, on June 24, 1945, a union blessed with two daughters, Sandra and Pamela. They moved back to the Clear Lake/Ventura area in 1946 where Marlys and Ray started farming. She also was an O’s Gold seed corn dealer. They retired and moved into town in 1984. 

    Maryls and Ray loved to travel. They went on many cruises and even made it back to Denmark. They wintered in Texas for 31 years. Marlys was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Thought and Thimble Club, VFW Auxiliary, and the Iowa Shorthorn Lassies. Keeping with her love of the farm, she was a 4-H leader. 

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Raymond Christensen, of Clear Lake; daughters, Sandra (Tom) Johnson, Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Pamela Adler, Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, Amy (Leland) Shipley, Nodaway, Iowa, Matthew (Melissa) Johnson, Norwalk, Iowa, and Morgan (Dustin) Leeson, Fruita, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jerome Leeson and Connor and Sarah Shipley; and two brothers, Ronald Prescott, Danville, Ky. and Dale Prescott, Texas. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Alta Mae (Carr) Prescott; brothers, Paul and Roger Prescott; her sister, Maxine Westover; and son-in-law, Mike Adler.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
