Sally L. Bell

Sally L. Bell, 62, of Clear Lake, died from a bicycle accident on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

A gathering of friends was held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Lampost Theater at the Hub, Clear Lake. A time of sharing and celebrating of her life was held with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating. Memorials in Sally’s name may be made to either Patriots for Pets or the Humane Society of North Iowa. 

Sally was born June 23, 1952, in Mason City, the daughter of Kenneth and Ruby (Daniels) Humburg.  She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1970.  After High School, Sally worked for a veterinarian in Clear Lake before going to work as a respiratory therapist at Mercy Hospital. Sally attended DMACC, majoring in Surgical Technology. During the summer of 1978 she made her first cross country bicycle tour from Astoria, Oregon, to Chesapeake Bay.  Afterwards she went back to work at Mercy as an O.R. Tech. until the opening of the Mason City Surgery Center, where she was currently employed.

Sally married Mark Moehle on March 24, 1997.

An avid bicyclist, Sally rode across the United States on two-and-one-half different occasions, and frequently pedaled over 10,000 miles a year. Aside from cycling, her hobbies included hiking, snowshoeing and walking dogs – both her own,  and anyone else’s that needed a walk and a treat.  Always a morning person, Sally never tired of watching and photographing the sunrise. 

Sally is survived by her husband, Mark Moehle, Clear Lake; son, Seth (Amy) Bell, Mason City; step-grandson, Lakotah Oelkers; three brothers, Craig (Linda) Humburg, Clear Lake, Keith (Dawn) Humburg, Humbolt, Iowa, and Todd (Julie) Humburg, Clear Lake; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; specials friends, Rob Bell, Clear Lake, Russell Rayburn, Clear Lake, and Willard Ferrell, Santa Rosa, Calif.; along with a host of many friends and fellow cyclists.  

She was preceded by her parents.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
