Cardinals land six on All-District teams

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team had six players named to All-District teams for the 2014 season.

Named to the First Team was Conner Shaw, Gabe Umbarger, Logan Miller and Harley Forry.  Connor Smith and Corey Hauptmann earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Shaw, a sophomore, was named to the First Team as a running back.  He was the third leading rusher in the district.  He led the Cardinals with 714 yards rushing for the season on 150 attempts.  He averaged 4.8 yards a carry and collected seven touchdowns.

Umbarger, a junior, played on the offensive line for the Cardinals.  He was two time All-District player and was a team captain this season.

Miller was also a two time All-District player and as a senior was a team captain.  He played outside linebacker.  He was the team’s second leading rusher with 502 total yards for the season on 91 carries.  He averaged 5.5 yards a carry and scored four touchdowns.

Forry, a junior, was named to the First Team as a utility players.  He played running back, defensive back and returned punts and kicks for the Cardinals.  He also filled in at quarterback when needed.  Forry was the team’s leading receiver with eight catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith, a junior, played on the offensive line and was a linebacker, while Hauptmann played on the offensive and defensive lines.  Hauptmann, a senior, was also a team captain.
