GHV School Board to vote on school building use Dec. 8

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura School Board plans to make a final decision on which grade levels will be housed at the consolidated district’s two elementary buildings when they hold their December school board meeting.

The board asked the administrative team from the two schools for a recommendation, based on the best educational setting for all students.  The team’s recommendation was to have the elementary building in Garner be a pre-kindergarten to grade four building and the elementary building in Ventura to house grades five and six.

According to Superintendent Tyler Williams, the recommendation included calling the current Garner elementary building the GHV Elementary School (PK-4) and the current elementary Ventura building the GHV Intermediate School (5-6).

“Having an early childhood center in Garner and a middle level learning center in Ventura would provide for tremendous learning opportunities for both students and teachers,” said Williams.  “Controversy is likely, regardless of the Board’s final decision and the Board and administration understands this and sympathizes.  However, a decision must be made and the administration feels this decision provides the best education possible for all students.”

Williams said the recommendation would include the following buildings:

PK-4 GHV Elementary School located in Garner

5-6 GHV Intermediate School located in Ventura

7-8 GHV Junior High School located in Ventura

9-12 GHV High School located in Garner
