Callanan wins Board of Supervisors race
Cerro Gordo County voters turned out in high numbers to cast their votes in the recent General Election held on Tuesday, Nov. 4. There were 16,210 ballots cast in the county.
In Cerro Gordo County, the race between Governor Terry Branstad (R) and Jack Hatch (D) was not a close one, with Branstad receiving 60.4 percent of the vote. Branstad collected 10,297 votes to Hatch’s 6,341.
In other races, Joni Ernst (R) topped Bruce Braley (D) in the U.S. Senate race. In Cerro Gordo County, however, Braley beat Ernst by receiving 52.1 percent of the vote. Braley garnered 8,881 votes to Ernst’s 7,590.
Amanda Ragan (D) topped Shawn Dietz (R) in the State Senator Dist. 27 race. Ragan received 64 percent of the vote to defeat Dietz. Ragan had 10,367 ballots cast for her, while Dietz had 5,832.
Incumbent Steve King (R) won the U.S. Representative 4th District seat over Democratic challenger Jim Mowrer. In Cerro Gordo County, the race was a tight one, with Mowrer topping King. Mowrer collected 8,523 votes to King’s 8,360.
In a local race, Casey Callanan (R) won the Board of Supervisors District 2 position over Doug Nelson (D). Callanan won the race by collecting 51.6 percent of the vote. Callanan had 3,170 votes to Nelson’s 2,181. District 2 serves Clear Lake, Ventura, Meservey, Thornton, Swaledale, Rockwell and Plymouth.
“It’s very humbling to have been chosen by the people of Cerro Gordo County as their supervisor,” said Callanan. “I’ll do my best upon taking office to justify the faith they’ve placed in my ability to effectively represent them. My door will be open to hear concerns, suggestions, and any matters affecting our county and how to improve things.”
