City signs ‘Great Places’ agreement to facilitate Surf District improvements

As part of its designation as one of “Iowa Great Places,” the Clear Lake City Council has approved an agreement to provide matching funds to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs to provide for improvements in the Surf Ballroom District.

The city and North Iowa Cultural Center and Museum, associated with the Surf, co-submitted an application for Iowa Great Places consideration.   Grant funding was awarded in the amount of $101,000 to complete a series of projects identified in the plan submitted as part of the application process.

The city agreed to spend $80,000 to help fund wayfinding signs throughout the Surf District and community, interactive sound system at Three Stars Plaza, and Surf right-of-way and parking lot landscaping improvements.  The Surf is providing the funding for marquee refurbish - Read More Via e-Edition
