GHV boys win State Qualifying Meet; Smith places first
History was made by the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys cross country team by winning their first State Qualifying meet. Not only did they win, but they won by a large margin, garnering 57 points to capture the title. Osage was second with 75 points, followed by Waukon in third place with 92 points. Fifteen teams competed in the event held on Thursday, Oct. 23, in New Hampton.
“I am very proud of what the team accomplished,” said Coach Eric Jolivette. “We were expected to win this meet and that expectation was met. Now we take that confidence and motivation down to Fort Dodge and fight for every place.”
The team had great races across the board, with three runners recording personal records.
Another highlight of the meet was Chase Smith capturing the individual title. Smith ran his race in 16:01.4 to earn the top honor.
Logan Dalbeck also placed in the top 10, with a sixth place finish and a personal record in 17:06.8.
