Beverly Lechner
Beverly Ann Lechner, 74, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Due to her wishes she will be cremated.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Rev. Rhea Evanson of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Rockwell, officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and then an hour before the service on Thursday. Family suggests memorials to Beverly Ann Lechner Memorial fund.
Beverly was born Aug. 18, 1940 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of William and Bernice (Pries) Christopher. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1959. She married Keith Hitchcock and to this union seven children were born.
She worked at Unisys, in Clear Lake and she also tended bar at Carol’s Lounge, Clear Lake V.F.W., Wagon Wheel and Town Pump.
She married Earl Lechner on Aug. 29, 1987, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, Iowa. She worked at Gopher Sports, Owatonna, Minn. After Earl and Beverly moved to Clear Lake and then Rockwell she worked at Decker Sports, as a screen printer.
She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, gardening, flowers, making her children’s favorite meals and Thanksgiving pies, the holiday gatherings and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Lechner, Rockwell; seven children, Tina (James) Chapin, Clear Lake, Diane Hitchcock, Ottumwa, Iowa, Yvonne (Douglas) Arrack, Clear Lake, Connie (Leon) Weaver, Rockwell, Charlene (Tom) Starr, Rockwell, Tim (Jennifer) Hitchcock, Mason City, and Tom (Shelly) Hitchcock, Rockwell; 18 grandchildren, Tony Hitchcock, Curtis Higgins, Katherine Weaver, Kim Northman, Melissa Ellison, Doug Arrack Jr, Troy Biker, Danielle Pommerehn, Monte Bitker, Dennise Starr, Joe Starr, Amanda Starr, Brittany Starr, Andy Hitchcock, Aly Hitchcock, Madison Hitchcock, Rachel Hitchcock, Nate Hitchcock; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine (Melvin) Pollock, Evansdale, Iowa and Carrie Duckett, Rockwell; one brother, Bill Christopher, Los Angeles, Calif.; sister-in-law, Beverly Christopher, Amarillo, Texas; step children, David Lechner, Corpus Christi, Texas, James Lechner Clear Lake, Dana (Nancy) Lechner, Corpus Christi, and Deneen (Cary) Schwager, Osage, Iowa; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dick and Danny Christopher; grandson, Grant Hitchcock and a very special friend, Linda True.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
