Lions battle hard against St. Ed’s
The Clear Lake volleyball team came back from a two-game deficit to knot the score with St. Ed’s, but the Gaels pulled out a 3-2 victory Thursday
“Over all it was a great match that just had a few too many mental mistakes,” said Coach Keith Sears. “It was a very hard fought game. We came out a little flat the first two games, but after battling back and forth and pulling out the win the third set we gained a little momentum.”
The Lions dropped games one and two by identical scores of 25-21, but a 30-28 victory in the third got the team on track. They sailed through the fourth game, winning 25-16.
The fifth and deciding game went St. Eds’ way, 15-12.
“We made some big strides and were able to work the ball around to multiple hitters throughout the course of the match because of improved passing and consistent attacking,” said Coach Sears.
The team finished with a season-high 13 blocks in the match. In addition, there were five players with 15 or more digs: Emily Phalen (16), Emily Snelling (16), Kaye Faber (17), Carney Frahm (19), Lindsey Loudenburg (21).
The Lions’ power game was led by Phalen with 15 kills. Katie Hewett put down 10 kills. Kaye Faber was credited with 42 assists.
The Lions remain in the road this week. Thursday, Oct. 2, they will play in a tri-match at Central Springs against Central Springs and Forest City.
